Disinfecting
Does everything need to be disinfected? (06/08/2006 07:44 PM)
I took some time to read a few blogs from members I hadn't read before. It was an enjoyable experience and it also gave me some new insight and... yep some material to blog about. I absolutely loved the blog about the "Stance" and the proper way a woman should use a public restroom. I thank God that my mother NEVER instilled the stance in me. She was of the firm belief that God will protect you from all things, even the nasty bathroom at the county fair. What woman can actually go to the bathroom squatting 2 inches above the seat like that anyway? God didn't make us to stand up ladies.. we are SUPPOSED to sit. Trust me on this.. k? Now she didn't believe that you can't get a disease or anything. She just believed that it wasn't necessary to worry about it. Just have faith and trust that you would be kept healthy. I am glad she instilled this faith in me as well. Because if you look around you and see just how many places a person can "catch something" from touching another surface is quit frightening. Grocery stores now supply disinfectant wipes for the shopping carts so you don't catch a cold or other germs. What about all of the food in the store? Is it safe to touch the canned goods? Bottled water? Magazine without disinfecting them? Seems a little extreme doesn't it? How about the gas pumps? Maybe the fumes from the gas will kill anything that might try to attached itself to the handle there huh? I didn't even mention the other places a person can pick up germs etc. because there really are too many to name... if you named them all you'd just have to worry about it anyway and wonder what kind of germ you might get if you didn't wipe it down first. Next thing you know you'll look like Monk strolling through life disinfecting everything before you touch it. One day we were at the beach, the lady next to us was leaving and offered us the use of her chairs. As I was laying my towel on the one chair, she leaned over to tell me that she disinfected it before and after she used it, so I could feel safe. I felt safer before knowing how much of an obsessive compulsive person she was. I don't panic over sitting in a chair that someone else has sat in fully clothed with a towel over it besides. I always put a towel down first anyway so I don't stick. And besides..I don't think much is going to grow on something that has been sitting in the sun for over 3 hours at 100 degrees.. but that's just me.
